The Indonesian radio world’s dream of having awards, just like other media such as television and the press, has come true. On 12 February 2009, PPMN launched the Indonesian Radio Awards, an award ceremony just for Indonesian radio journalists. The debut Indonesian Radio Awards presented two awards, the Jusuf Ronodipuro Award for best radio feature and interview, and the Ken Sudarto Award for best radio public service announcement. Both were for work broadcast in 2008. The winners of the 2008 Indonesian Radio Awards were announced in Jakarta before an audience of around 150 Indonesian radio practitioners and observers. The Jusuf Ronodipuro Award for best feature went to a journalist from Central Sulawesi, for an investigative report on ebony smuggling. Winner of the Ken Sudarto Award for best PSA was a campaign for using condoms to prevent HIV. The event attracted well-known figures in Indonesian radio, including Wimar Witoelar and Radio Republik Indonesia Director Parni Hadi. They welcomed the awards and hope they will be held every year to help build the professionalism of radio in Indonesia in serving the public interest. |
